Dr. Eunice Otuko Apio would love to, with diligence, proffer herself once again MP-elect for Oyam County North Constituency, Dr. Apio hails from Amukugungu parish in Otwal Sub-County, and is a member of the Uganda People’s Congress Party (UPC). She is an accomplished researcher, development activist, peace builder and author.
A little bit about herself;
• PhD in African Studies and Anthropology from the University of Birmingham (UK) in 2016.
• Masters in Human Rights (MUK).
• Bachelor of Science in Science (MUK).
• Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Gender and Transitional Justice at the Law School, University of Birmingham (2017-2022).
• Honorary Research Fellow, University of Birmingham.
• Honorary Senior Research Fellow, American Council for Women, Peace and Security.
• Novelist: Writer of ‘Zura Maids’ – an award-winning novel set in Oyam, that reimagines the experiences of human trafficking victims/survivors in an African setting.
Dr. Eunice is co-founder of Facilitation for Peace and Development (FAPAD), a non-profit non-governmental organization in northern Uganda.
Dr. Eunice’s lifelong work was recognized by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) as one of six finalists for the prestigious global ‘Women Building Peace Award 2022’.
She received Uganda’s Inaugural Janzi Award for Outstanding Book of 2021 for Zura Maids, her novel about Human Trafficking.
She is an ardent researcher and has shared the results of her studies widely, including a briefing on 18 June 2015 to the UN Security Council during an open debate on children and armed conflict, and at high level meetings at the Pentagon and Congress (US) on 19 June, 2015, and with the Pope at the Vatican in October 2015 in which Dr. Apio received recognition for her peacebuilding work.
Dr Apio’s exposure and meticulous abilities in incubating and sustaining development, and her many years of activism on rule of law, position her as the right candidate to represent her people of Oyam County North Constituency in the 11th Parliament. She will draw on these experiences and resources to provide effective representation, oversight, and to legislate for her people.
The heart of our communities are health, education and eradicating poverty. These will be the pillars of Dr Apio’s agenda to improve the well-being of our constituents.
