Somalia’s President Sheikh Hassan Mohamud has said all foreign peacekeepers have to leave the war-torn country by December 2024.
Mohamud made the remarks on Saturday while meeting with the AU Special Representative and African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) Head, Amb. Souef Mohamed El-Amine at Villa Somalia.
Discussions primarily focussed on security, including the planned ATMIS drawdown procedures and timeliness.
“The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the Somali Transition Plan on the hand-over of security responsibilities from the African Union forces to Somalia National Army,” said Villa Somalia.
