Prison Guard Shoots 2 Colleagues Dead at Buikwe Prison

Two Prison guards at Bugungu Government Prison in Buikwe district were this Monday morning shot and killed by their own fellow warder, authorities have confirmed.

The warder now in police custody is 28-year-old known as Jacob Otim.
Frank Baine, the Prisons spokesperson says Otim purposely obtained a gun and went, shot one female warder and another colleague who came for rescue.(UPF)

Baine says, “signed a gun to go for general duties only to head to the Sentry where Wardress Abwot Eunice was working and shot her dead instantly.”

“On hearing the sound of the gun, the second sentry, Warder Namanya Edward came to establish the cause of shooting. Unfortunately, he was too shot dead by Otim.” he adds.

After shooting the two dead, Baine says Otim attempted to turn the gun on himself but was subdued by other staff on duty and detained.

“Police was called in immediately, took over the crime scene, exhibits and the culprit for further management.” Baine added.
The deceased, Eunice Abwot hails from Laroo Sub-County, Gulu District and late Namanya Edward Is from Rwamucucu Sub County, Rukiga District.”
