OPM to Send Food Aid to Mubende and Kasanda

The Prime Minister’s Office has announced plans to send emergency food aid to disadvantaged groups in Mubende and Kasanda districts that have been impacted by Ebola containment measures.

President Museveni declared a 21-day lockdown and curfew in the two areas last week in order to limit the current Ebola outbreak.

The directive has affected many people, including market vendors, boda-boda cyclists, taxi drivers and conductors, saloon owners, and others, who can no longer carry out their duties, leaving them vulnerable.

In a statement dated October 21, 2022, the government stated that it has acknowledged and studied concerns voiced by political leaders from Mubende and Kasanda on the Ebola control measures, and that it will now act.

“Following clearance from the President, we now guide as follows; Starting next week, the Office of the Prime Minister will deliver emergency relief food items to vulnerable groups i.e those who are impacted most, by Ebola control measures, in the above 2 districts,” the statement reads in part.
