MUK Guild NRM Flag Bearer Hussein Leads Students to Kamwengye to Mourn Fallen UCU Student

The Ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM)'s Makerere University Chapter, on Saturday convened at Malere Village, Biguli Town Council in Kamwengye District to mourn the fallen Uganda Christian University(UCU) Student, Betungura Bewatti.

Betungura, 27, was murdered during the guild rally at Rugby grounds on thursday in a scuffle between National Unity Platform (NUP) and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).

The deceased was a resident of Kikoni Zone B, Makerere parish, Kawempe Division in Kampala.

Led by Ibra Hussein, the NRM Flag Bearer for the 88th Makerere University Guild President Elections, over 60 students joined mourners at Malere to pay their last respect to Betungura.

Speaking to Mourners on Saturday, Hussein said Batungura was a man of honor and great virtues urging youths to always keep moral values and peace for each other and always to love thier country like the deceased.

"Betungura was hardworking, kind and a respectful Person who loved his country as a young man. He may be no more within this world, but his deeds will always speak of his nobility", Hussein added that young should desist from using violent actions that ended Betungura's innocent life.

Hussein asked Police to thoroughly investigate this matter and bring all culprits to book.

He handed over Shs 1M as condolences to the deceased’s parents. 

In attendance, was Hon.Frank Tumwebaze, the Minister for Agriculture, area MPs ,Local and Kampala leaders.

During a church service at St Steven COU _Malere village, the deceased's father, Mr Benson Mucunguzi asked government to investigate the matter and bring it to its logical conclusion .

Makerere University Council has consequently banned physical guild elections at the institution following the violent incidents .The elections were were scheduled to take place yesterday Thursday. 

According to Luke Oweyesigyire, the Deputy Police Spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Region, several people have so far been arrested to help on the investigations.

The some of the suspects were identified by police as Hon. Frank Kabuye, Allan Ssekidde and Muzafaru Kabuurwa detained at Kampala central police station (CPS), Wandegeya police station, and Old Kampala Police Station respectively.

According to police, the arrested individuals are suspected to have participated in the chaos that culminated into the death of Batungura with Hon. Kabuye being the ring leader.

    Thanks for the care and love Hussein Ibra though buwatte was FDC but still you took that responsibility
