The Inspectorate Receives Approximately 4bn from Misused  Funds


The Inspectorate of Government has received approximately UGX 4bn from misused and misappropriated funds between 2018 and 2021.


In an interview with Kampala regional chairwoman Anne Muhairwe Twinomugisha, the Deputy Attorney General stated that during that time more than 4,000 cases were investigated and eliminated which resulted in the arrest and prosecution of 97 public servants.


According to a 2021 study conducted by government inspectors, the Ugandan government loses UGX 20 trillion annually due to corruption and losses of at least UGX 131bn in taxes, 459bn lost on consumer spending services, 820bn lost on natural resources, 15bn lost on corruption environmental, 2bn lost due to absenteeism in government departments, 451bn lost to health and education services, 86bn in security provision, 590bn in purchasing and budgeting, and 233bn in law.


Muhairwe urged leaders at the local government level and their people to join hands in the fight against corruption to ensure its success.
