Confusion as Bayern fields 12 players

In their 4-1 win away from home against Freighburg, Bayern Munich for twelve seconds during the match had 12 players on the pitch due to an error by the forth official on the touchline.

Bayern Munich opened the scoring in the second half through Leon Goretzka who was making his return from injury after four months on the sidelines.

Few moments after coming on for Freighburg in the second half, Petersen  scored the equalizer for the home side to draw the tie level with a first time strike.

A finish from Bayern substitute, Gnabry and another from Coman made it 3-1 in favor of Bayern Munich.

The coach then seeked to introduce fresh legs four minutes to the end of regulation time as he brought on Sabitzer and Sule with only Toliso going off instead. This meant that Bayern then had 12 players on the pitch for about 12 seconds before Freighburg alerted the referee about the irregularity.

Bayern coach, Nagglesman commented that this was because of an error by the forth official insisting that the forth official indicated a different number on the board and therefore Coman didn't realize that he was the one to come off in the other change for the Bavarians.

Sabitzer who had come on as a substitute put the icing on the cake as he netted the forth for the German champions after receiving an assist from fellow substitute, Gnabry.

Bayern Munich are now nine points ahead of second placed Dortmund which lost 4-1 against Leipzig with only 6 matches to spare.

The German Football Association will give its verdict concerning the scenario as it is punishable by the league rules.
