Arteta drops hint on Arsenal's next captain

Arsenal dropped a major hint on who would become their new captain next season. The North London club has had unstable leadership in the recent seasons, having seen both Granit Xhaka and Pierie Emerick Aubameyang stripped off the arm band.

After the exile of Aubameyang in December last year who later on left for Barcelona where he has become an integral part of Xavi's team, Arsenal manager appointed the then Arsenal vice captain in the names of Alexander Lacazette to lead the team upto the end of the season.

However with the Frenchman's contract set to expire at the end of the season and rumors linking him with a move away from the Emirates stadium, Arteta has a major decision to make on who will be Arsenal's next captain.

A number of names have been talked about, the likes of Ordegaard, Tierney, Partey and Xhaka. During Arsenal's 2-0 win over Leicester, a major hint was dropped about who would become Arsenal's next captain.

In a match that saw Lacazette being replaced by Nketiah, the Arsenal captain gave his nearest team-mate Smith-Rowe the arm band who was charged with the duty of delivering it to Kieran Tierney. The Scottish left back led the team in the remaining minutes of the match indicating that he would become the Gunners' new captain next season in case Lacazette departs.

Arteta had made it clear in an interview about his admiration for Tierney both on and off the pitch as he strongly branded him as a true leader who is not only a hardworking part of the team but also a friendly personality with the people around him.
