Government requests to borrow USD 70 million

State Minister of Finance, Henry Musasizi has laid a proposal to borrow US$ 20.0m from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (Badea); US$ 30.0m from the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD); and US$ 20.0m from the OPEC Fund for International Development (OPEC fund) for the construction and equipping of the Uganda Heart Institute Project.

The proposal is reffered to the Parliamentary Committee of National Economy for consideration.


State Minister for Finance, Henry Musasizi says there is need to establish if the tax component is what is making the prices of essential commodities go up. _"I need to go back and make an analysis and come back with a comprehensive statement."_

Deputy Speaker Anita Among: I wonder if the local person in the village can afford a bar of soap at 10,000. This cannot be an issue of studying; This has to be worked on immediately. The local person needs to be rescued in this matter.
