Ugandan Police Statement on New Crest Junior School Fire

Kawempe District Police are investigating a fire at New Crest Junior on Kibedi Day and Boarding Primary School in Kawempe Division Kampala City, where four children were pronounced dead.

It is alleged that the fire started around 3am this morning (15/01/2022) from one of the female students. Four female students were confirmed dead and three were seriously injured (details will be provided).

The injured were taken to Kyadondo Hospital in Kisowera Zone Kawempe Ward in Kawempe Division, where they were treated.

However, it should be noted that a school in our area had a fire and did not report it to the nearest police station in Kawempe. This is an act of gross negligence that resulted in the deaths and injuries of students.

A death case has been opened at Kawempe police station. Our team of intelligence experts from the Directorate of Fire and Forensics documented the incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased students.
